What’s Next For Our Theatre?
Our Three Phase Remodel Project
Phase One
Phase One – Ten years ago the VLT Board of Directors decided to move forward with remodeling our aging facility. After commissioning two feasibility studies, hiring an architect, and discarding our first design as it was too expensive, we decided to divide the master remodel plan into three phases. Two years ago we completed Phase One, the remodel of the auditorium and the stage, at a cost of $1.7 million. Funding is still needed for high-speed electric winches to complete the rigging plan to facilitate flying scenery on the new stage.
Phase Two
Phase Two – the remodel and extension of the scene shop – will double the size of the shop, provide a large loading dock and door, and provide essential additional storage space in the basement. This phase will allow us to build more scenery off-stage, freeing up more time to accommodate performances by other groups and community events. The estimated cost is $425,000 and will be covered by a $350,000 grant from the State of Oregon and generous gifts from donors. This three-month project will begin this fall (2024).
Phase Three
Phase Three – a two-story extension behind the stage will provide a “crossover” from one side of the stage to the other, additional storage space, multi-use space, and provision for a future elevator. This phase is scheduled for 2025/26. We are now soliciting individual donations and grants from foundations to finance Phase Three and finish our master plan for the VLT of the future.
