The Very Little Theatre continues its 81st season on March 12 with a three-week run of The Clean House , a whimsical and poignant look at class, comedy, and the true nature of love, written by Sarah Ruhl.
Lane, a doctor who can’t stand to clean her own house, tries to make her tidy, logical life entirely spotless, while her Brazilian housekeeper Matilde, an aspiring comedienne, dreams of one day creating the perfect joke. Lane’s sister Virginia enters the picture with her own designs for a perfectly clean living room. And Lane’s world gets even messier when her husband Charles leaves her for an older, life-embracing woman.
Director Wade Hicks has cast Jennifer Sellers as Lane; Ron Judd is her husband, Charles; Nancy West is the sister, Virginia; Kathy James LaMontagne is “the other woman,” Ana; and Lizzie Malarky is Matilde. The show features an original score by Brandon Scott Rumsey, set design by Brad Steinmetz, lighting design by David Sherman, and costumes by Paula Tendick. |
