Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the theater... It’s the Greatest Hollywood Blockbuster Never Made! Completely Hollywood (abridged) is a zany comedy that reduces 187 movies into under two hours of side-splitting fun, condensing every cliché from every movie ever made (plus a few new ones they just made up) into an evening of “stellar shtick” (Chicago Tribune). The madness! The method! The images! It all culminates in the summer’s biggest blockbuster with no stars, no budget, and no popcorn — but plenty of laughs!
Director Adam Leonard has cast three very versatile and talented young men to play the many character roles in the show: Patrick Curzon, Russell Dyball, and Tim O'Donnell. All three have strong backgrounds in comedy and improv—a crucial element in pulling off the many parodies in the show, according to Leonard.
“I first became aware of Martin and Tichenor's work back when I first read “The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (abridged)” in high school, and have been hooked ever since,” says Leonard. “I have a love of their works because they are unique, they twist the notion of what is theatre, and their shows draw traditional theatre-goers while also drawing in people who may not usually go see a show. As my artistic vision has developed, I've become fascinated with the blurring line between pop culture and theatre.”
Leonard notes that this show in particular will be an exciting challenge to his three cast members, because the “abridged” shows require the actors to wear many hats—literally and figuratively! They must be actors, entertainers, impressionists, and improvisers, portraying countless characters—including women! “It's like a magician's act, incredibly complex and lovingly perfected,” says Leonard. “It's a comic decathlon.”
Patrick Curzon is a veteran of several "abridged" shows, including “All the Great Books” and “The Complete Works of William Shakespeare.” Russell Dyball has been in more than 30 local productions, plus local comedy improv groups. Tim O'Donnell is a ten-year veteran of improvisational theater and is an actor and producer with LCC's Student Productions Assn.
