Volunteer at The VLT,
Where Everyone Plays a Part!

The Very Little Theatre invites you to share some of your time and talents, and join our many dedicated volunteers who love and support community theatre. All tasks, large or small, need a willing volunteer to step in and help out to make a production a success.

Never set foot in a theater before, but always yearned to be involved in a play? No problem! That's what community theater is all about. There are many opportunities where no prior skill is required. We will provide the training you need.

Did you love theater during high school or college, but gradually drifted away? We will welcome you back with open arms! Make new friends, and remember why you were originally bitten by the "theater bug".

People from all walks of life, ages, skills, and interests volunteer at The VLT. Some work in several different areas and spend much of their spare time at the theatre. Others choose to specialize in one or two areas and help out as their time permits.

If you’ve ever wanted to get a little taste of “show biz,” or would like more information on participating at The VLT, contact Vice President Suzanne Shapiro at 541-342-4795, e-mail: vicepresident@thevlt.com, or leave a message at the Very Little Theatre: 541-344-7751.

What can I do?

If you're new to the theatre the best place to start is work on a show as one of the crew members (props, lights, sound, running, dressing) or to work as an usher (handing out playbills, showing patrons their seats). There are many opportunities not listed below. Contact The VLT to find out more!

Actors: Anyone who ever wanted to act, from one with no experience to the most seasoned actor, is welcome to audition. Make sure to check our VLT Auditions page for upcoming opportunities.

Ushers greet the public, take tickets, help patrons find their seats, and hand out programs. Ushers are friendly and helpful. This is a great way to get started and meet a lot of people. We use four ushers per performance.

Costume Crew is instrumental in building costumes as well as putting finishing touches on projects.

Running Crew is the perfect opportunity to learn and experience what happens behind the scenes of a theatrical production. Crew members are responsible for any sound or special effects needed from backstage and changing the set during scene breaks and at intermission. Running crew is also used to set props both backstage and onstage before and during performances.

Light Board Operator runs the computerized light board in order to properly light the show.

Properties Coordinators are responsible for helping find or build the hand props used by actors, including real food or drink for each performance. They also prepare and place the properties prior to the show each night.

Sound Operators will be trained to run our sound equipment, including sound cues and taped music and sound effects.

Box Office workers take ticket orders in the box office from patrons over the phone or in person.
